Fall 2009 Traditions night a major success!

We had the largest turnout of alumni for a T-night to date.  Both undergraduate chapters were in attendance in full force and both have healthy pledge classes.  Speakers for the event included Charlie Touchton, Troy Techau, Mike Wetter, Tom Trotter, Bill Dopp, and Senator Victor Crist.  The next Traditions night will be in the Spring semester, during rush week.  This is an event you don't want to miss!

On February 6, 2009 USF recognized our friend Dick Bowers at half-time of the USF-Marquette basketball game (which USF won!)

Below is a picture of the banner that was raised in the Sun Dome alongside the banners of certain players whose jerseys have been retired.

It is a wonderful honor for a wonderful man.

Kappa Omega Chapter Installation

The Kappa Omega Chapter at the University of Tampa was installed on April 14, 2007. Initially called Sigma Chi Tampa, the Colony was established in the spring of 2006, after the University determined that Sigma Chi was the best of 3 national Fraternities that were invited to present their credentials at a meeting held in the fall of 2005.

After 3 semesters the University of Tampa Colony met all of the requirements of Initiation into Sigma Chi and was installed at 11:00am with 40 bothers. The Installation ceremony was attended by 123 Sigs from across the country, including the entire Executive Committee, two past Grand Consuls, a number of Significant Sigs, and Order of Constantine Sigs. There was a large contingent from the Tampa Bay Area Alumni Chapter, as well as a State Senator, the Mayor of Plant City , and undergrads from the University of South Florida , University of Miami , Florida Southern, and Embry Riddle Sigma Chi Chapters.

The two primary events around the Installation were the ceremony itself and the Installation Banquet, which was held on April 14, at the Westshore Marriott. There were 187 Sigs and their dates in attendance, as well as dignitaries from the University of Tampa and parents of the newly initiated brothers. The Kappa Omega chapter also named their first sweetheart(s).

Roxy Rosales and Brittany Siejk with former Sigma Chi International Sweetheart Metta Grokenberger.

Pre-Installation letter to Alumni

January 11, 2006

Dear Sigma Chi Alumni-

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves, the newest Sigma Chi Colony at the University of Tampa.  We are looking forward to our April 14th Initiation Ceremony, and the honor of joining you in the bonds of brotherhood of Sigma Chi.

Ever since our start last February, we have made noise by hitting the ground running and becoming involved in events on campus and in the community. The Founding Father's pledge class accomplished many things last spring in our first semester on campus, including:

  • Highest GPA of all fraternities on campus (3.23)
  • Working with the City of Tampa and the University, performed 3 community service events in our first two months
  • Won Delta Gamma Anchor Splash philanthropy theme week
  • Won Greek Week, and social chair Sean Ford was crowned Greek God
  • Completed Sigma Chi's Mission 365 recruitment workshop
  • Attended the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop
  • Submitted the Declaration of Intent, the first official phase of becoming a Sigma Chi chapter
  • Graduated 18 pledges into "local active" status.  4 earned perfect pledge test scores!

This past fall semester we met our goals set forth to help further complete the requirements for installation, while surpassing expectations through the actives and events we participated in.  We:

  • Welcomed 14 new pledges on September 18th, 2006
  • Hosted the first annual Tampa Alumni night in the Sword and Shield room at UT
  • Hosted a pledge retreat at the home of Brother Tom Trotter, Purdue, Kent State '81
  • Recorded over 120 community service hours, which led all campus organizations
  • Won the Pi Kappa Phi's empathy PUSH tournament, a wheelchair basketball competition
  • Hosted the first UT Derby Days, raising more than $1,000 for Children's Miracle Network
  • Won Alpha Delta Gamma philanthropy theme week
  • Graduated 14 new members to "local active" status on November 10th, 2006.
  • Had our Phase I application approved by Headquarters
  • Participated in many other campus leadership positions, including student government, the campus newspaper, residence hall management, and various clubs and organizations

As you can see, we've been extremely aggressive in our pursuit of the White Cross.  Currently we are on track to be among the fastest colonies ever to receive a charter, and look forward to the April 14, 2007 Installation Ceremony. We would like to thank the Sigma Chi alumni for their support thus far, especially to those who participated in Derby Days, the Alumni Softball Game, and pledge / chapter meetings.  We look forward to meeting all of you during our Sigma Chi journey.

Best wishes to you and your families for a safe and happy year.
